A. Complete the following sentences with information from the passage:

Ans: Lady Guinevere was the daughter of the king Cornwall.

B. Answer the following questions:
(i) Why were the barons unhappy?
Ans: The barons were unhappy with King Arthur because he was gentle and just.
(ii) Give a brief description of the pavilion where Merlin took King Arthur.
Ans: The pavilion was painted crimson and dark blue. The floor of the pavilion was marbled. In the middle of the room was a huge, round, oak table, richly carved, capable of seating fifty people.
(iii) What did the knights promise King Arthur?
Ans: The knights promised King Arthur that they would help the helpless, be gentle to the weak and punish the wicked.
ACTIVITY 2
Change into Indirect speech:
(i) My father said to me, “May God bless you.”
Ans: My father prayed that God might bless me.
(ii) The police officer said, “Don’t go there.”
Ans: The police officer forbade to go there.

ACTIVITY 4
Write a paragraph in about 80 words on the life of the famous painter and writer Abanindranath Tagore.
Abanindranath Tagore
Abanindranath Tagore was one of the most prominent artists of India. He was born on 7th August, 1871 at Jorasanko in Calcutta. He was the son of Gunendranath Tagore and Saudamini Tagore. Gagenendranath Tagore and Sunayani Devi were his siblings. In the early 1880’s, Tagore entered Sanskrit College in Kolkata where he remained till 1889. The following year, in 1890, he enrolled at Government College of Art and Craft where he received his training in pastel and watercolour under the supervision of Signor Gilhardi and Charles Palmer.
He mastered the Western art of oil painting and realistic life study, but painted themes from Indian mythology. ‘Bharat Mata’, ‘The passing of Shah Jehan’ are among his popular paintings. He was also a notable writer. Most of his literary works were meant for children. Some of his books like ‘Budo Angla’, ‘Khirer Putul’ and ‘Raj Kahini’ are best examples of Bengali children’s literature. Multidimensional personality, Abanindranath Tagore passed away on December 5, 1951 in Calcutta.
