The poetry of earth is never dead:
পৃথিবীর গান কোনোদিনই শেষ হয়না:
When all the birds are faint with the hot sun,
যখন সমস্ত পাখিরা ক্লান্ত হয়ে পড়ে সূর্যের প্রখর তাপে,
And hide in cooling trees, a voice will run
এবং শীতল গাছে লুকিয়ে পড়ে (বা আশ্রয় নেয়), একটা কণ্ঠস্বর ছুটে বেড়ায়
From hedge to hedge about the new-mown mead
এক ঝোপ থেকে অন্য ঝোপে নতুন করে ছাঁটাই করা তৃণভূমিতে।
That is the grasshopper’s – he takes the lead
ওটাই (সেই কণ্ঠস্বরটাই) হল ঘাসফড়িঙের (কণ্ঠস্বর) – সে প্রধান ভূমিকা নেয়
In summer luxury, – he has never done
গ্রীষ্মের বিলাসিতায়, – কখনো শেষ হয়না
With his delights; for when tired out with fun
তার আনন্দ; কারণ যখন আনন্দ করতে করতে ক্লান্ত হয়ে পড়ে,
He rests at ease beneath some pleasant weed.
সে (ঘাসফড়িংটি) আরামে বিশ্রাম নেয় কিছু মনোরম আগাছার নিচে।
The poetry of earth is ceasing never:
পৃথিবীর গান কোনদিন স্তব্ধ হয়না:
On a lone winter evening, when the frost
এক নির্জন শীতের সন্ধ্যায়, যখন কুয়াশা
Has wrought a silence, from the stove there shrills
নিস্তব্ধতার সৃষ্টি করে, অগ্নিকুন্ডের পাশ থেকে বেজে ওঠে (অর্থাৎ ডাক শোনা যায়)
The cricket’s song, in warmth increasing ever,
ঝিঁঝিঁ পোকার গান, ক্রমশ বাড়তে থাকা উষ্ণতায়,
And seems to one in rows in a half lost,
তন্দ্রাছন্ন অবস্তায় অর্ধচেতন কোনো মানুষের কাছে মনে হয়,
The grasshopper’s among some grassy hills.
ঘাস ফড়িং এর (গান) ঘাসে ঢাকা পাহাড়ের মাঝে।
