Part: 1
Looking pale and thin, with a bushy half-grown beard, Subhas was reclining on his pillows when Sisir, his nephew, entered Subhas’s bedroom that December afternoon.
ফ্যাকাশে এবং পাতলা দেখতে, ঘন অর্ধেক বেড়েওঠা দাড়ি নিয়ে সুভাষ তার বালিশে হেলান দিয়ে বসে ছিলেন, যখন তার ভাইপো শিশির, সেই ডিসেম্বরের বিকেলে সুভাষের শোবার ঘরে প্রবেশ করলেন।
Subhas made him sit to his right on the bed.
সুভাষ তাকে বিছানায় ডানদিকে বসালেন।
Looking intensely at Sisir, he said, “Can you do some work for me?” Sisir nodded.
শিশিরের দিকে তীক্ষ্ণ দৃষ্টিতে তাকিয়ে বললেন, “তুমি কি আমার জন্য কিছু কাজ করতে পারবে?” শিশির মাথা নাড়ল।
The task, as it turned out, was to help plan and carry out Subhas’s escape from India.
কাজটি, যেমনটি বোঝা গেল, সুভাষকে ভারত থেকে পালানোর পরিকল্পনা করা ও রুপায়ন করার ব্যপারে সহায়তা করা।
Sisir would have to drive his uncle, in the dead of the night, to a railway station far away from Calcutta.
শিশিরকে গভীর রাতে গাড়ী চালিয়ে তার কাকাকে নিয়ে যেতে হবে কলকাতা থেকে অনেক দূরের একটি রেলস্টেশনে।
From his uncle’s residence at Elgin Road, Sisir walked back that night to his own house at 1, Woodburn Park in a state of wonder and subdued excitement.
এলগিন রোডে কাকার বাসভবন থেকে শিশির সেই রাতে হেঁটে ১, উডবার্ন পার্কে তার নিজের বাড়িতে বিস্ময়কর অবস্থায় এবং চাপা উত্তেজনা নিয়ে ফিরে আসেন।
The police were keeping watch on Subhas’s house.

Though it was normal for a nephew to visit an ailing uncle, Subhas had an additional excuse for meeting his nephew.
যদিও ভাইপোর পক্ষে অসুস্থ কাকার সাথে দেখা করাটা স্বাভাবিক ছিল, তবুও তার ভাইপোর সাথে দেখা করার জন্য সুভাষের একটা বাড়তি অজুহাত ছিল।
Sisir was good at operating the radio.

He helped Subhas listen to foreign broadcasts.
তিনি সুভাষকে বিদেশী সম্প্রচার শুনতে সাহায্য করেছিলেন।
Subhas and Sisir discussed various means of escape.

Finally, they decided to drive out, in the most natural fashion, through the main gate.

Sisir owned a German car called the Wanderer, which he and Subhas chose for their journey.

He operated in the north-western frontier provinces.
তিনি উত্তর-পশ্চিম সীমান্ত প্রদেশগুলি পরিচালনা করতেন।
He was to help Subhas escape.
তাঁর সুভাষকে পালাতে সহায়তা করার কথা ছিল।
Akbar Shah came to Calcutta.
আকবর শাহ কলকাতায় এসেছিলেন।
He was introduced to Sisir.
শিশিরের সাথে তাঁর পরিচয় করিয়ে দেওয়া হল।
Together they went to a shop in Central Calcutta where they purchased baggy shalwars(trousers) and a black fez for Subhas’s disguise.
তারা একসাথে মধ্য কলকাতার একটি দোকানে গিয়েছিলেন যেখানে তারা সুভাষের ছদ্মবেশের জন্য ঢিলেঢালা পাজামা এবং একটি কালো ফেজ টুপি কিনেছিল।
Later, Sisir also purchased a suitcase, a bedroll, shirts, and pillows.
পরে শিশির একটি স্যুটকেস, একটি গোটানো বিছানা, কিছু জামা এবং বালিশও কিনেছিলেন।
Subhas was to carry these with him in the journey.

Sisir then went to a printer’s shop.

He ordered a set of calling cards which read: ‘Muhammad Ziauddin, Travelling Inspector, the Empire of India Life Insurance Co. Ltd..
তিনি এক গোছা নাম-ঠিকানা সংবলিত কার্ড বানানোর আদেশ দিলেন যাতে লেখা ছিল: ‘মুহাম্মদ জিয়াউদ্দিন, ভ্রমণ পরিদর্শক, ভারত সাম্রাজ্য জীবন বীমা কোম্পানী লিমিটেড।
This was the false identity with which Subhas was to travel.

On 16th January 1941, Sisir finished his dinner early and drove to Elgin road around 8.30 pm.

Ans. The British Police had kept an eye on Subhas. He put on a false identity so that they could not recognise him.

Subhas and Sisir hugged the inner wall of the long house-corridor and tiptoed down the back stairs to the car.
সুভাষ ও শিশির বাড়ির ভেতরে দীর্ঘ দালানের দেওয়াল আঁকড়ে ধরে পা টিপে টিপে পিছনের সিঁড়ি দিয়ে গাড়ির কাছে চলে গেলেন।
Subhas sat in the back, Sisir drove the car.
সুভাষ পিছনে বসেছিল, শিশির গাড়ি চালিয়েছিল।
He started the engine and drove out from 38/2 Elgin Road as he had done on so many past occasions.
তিনি ইঞ্জিনটি চালু করেছিলেন এবং ৩৮/২ টি এলগিন রোড থেকে বেরিয়ে গিয়েছিলেন যেমনটি তিনি অতীতে অনেকবার করেছিলেন।
At Subhas’s Elgin Road residence, the light glowed in his bedroom to give the impression that he was still there.

শিশির তাকে রেলওয়ে ওভারব্রিজে উঠে তাঁর স্বাভাবিক রাজকীয় ভঙ্গিতে হেঁটে যেতে দেখলেন।
He disappeared into the darkness towards the platform on the opposite side.
তিনি বিপরীত দিকের প্ল্যাটফর্মের দিকে অন্ধকারে অদৃশ্য হয়ে গেলেন।
The Delhi-Kalka Mail released steam.
দিল্লি-কালকা মেল বাষ্প ছাড়ল।
Sisir heard the rhythmic clutter of the wheels and saw the train lights moving away.
