My dear Uncle,
I know how anxious you are about us. Though the condition is quite awful we, are alright. Please do not worry.
From the 24th September the sky was overcast with thick rain clouds. By the evening the rain began to pour down in torrents and for the next two days it rained incessantly. Many districts of the state were affected in the rain and many areas including parts of the city of Kolkata were flooded in this rain. Particular areas of the city like Lake Town, Salt Lake etc. remained sumberged for seven days.
The condition of the residents was simply horrible. They had to face untold miseries. As the area was submerged the water supply was disrupted and there was scarcity of drinking water. People could not collect food-items as shops were closed and vehicles stopped plying. At places electric wires snapped and water entered in the underground cables disrupting supply of electricity.
However, our condition was not bad. Though for two days we remained water-logged, on the third day water receded and normalcy was restored. Everyone is alright. So you don’t have to worry about us. Do visit us during the Pujas. Please pay my regards to aunt and love to cousins.
Your loving nephew,
Chandan Mukherjee

My dear uncle,
I hope you are well. I am writing to tell you about the heavy rain we have been having in West Bengal. It has been raining very hard for the past few weeks.
Many areas are flooded because of the rain. Streets are filled with water, and some houses are underwater. In the hills, there have been landslides, which have damaged roads and buildings.
People are facing many problems due to the rain. Some families have had to leave their homes and stay in temporary shelters. The local government and some organizations are helping by providing food, water, and medical care. But it will take time to fix everything.
Farmers are also worried because their crops are damaged by the rain. It is a tough time for everyone, but people are helping each other. There is a strong sense of community as we all work together to get through this.
I wanted to share this with you so you know what is happening here. Please keep us in your thoughts. I hope to hear from you soon. Take care.
Your loving nephew,
Chandan Mukherjee
